Veestro Reviews

The advent of the meal kit delivery service has changed how a lot of people shop for their meals. Subscription box services are popular for all sorts of foods and drinks and will probably continue to grow over the coming years. Veestro is a vegan frozen food delivery service that doesn’t just offer a subscription service.

Veestro Reviews

It also allows you to order a la carte without committing to a regular delivery schedule.

So how have customers reacted to this service?  We look at some Veestro reviews to find out.

We will also explain how the service works as well as looking at its pros and cons.

What Is Veestro?

Veestro is a service that delivers ready made frozen vegan dishes to your door.

It offers a subscription service, but they also have a la carte options.

The business was started by a brother and sister from Costa Rica who saw a gap in the US market.

Having grown up with fresh vegetables and fruit as natural parts of their diet they wanted to provide the same option to vegans in America.

While there are other frozen meal delivery services, there were not many that catered specifically to vegans.

This is where Veestro came in, offering healthy, plant based foods that were ready made.

It’s an ideal solution for busy people who want to eat healthily at home but don’t have the time to prepare vegan meals from scratch.

How Does It Work?

To use Veestro there are two main options. You can choose from the a la carte menu as and when you want to order from them.

Alternatively you can set up a subscription and have regular meals delivered to your home every week.

The options are either randomly selected for you with the ‘chefs choice’ or you handpick your own meals.

For the meals plans themselves you choose to have 10, 20 or 30 meals per week. Delivery day is usually Wednesday.

Subscription will work out cheaper for you in the long term if you decide you want to give Veestro a shot.

The a la carte option works if you want to pick when you want your deliveries without committing to an automatic delivery schedule through subscription.

Choosing Your Meals

The first step before choosing your individual meals is to choose the meal plans.

Many people appreciate the fact that you can pick to have either 10, 20 or 30 meals per week or bi-weekly.

This allows you to plan ahead or buy meals for more than one person.

The a la carte option is a breath of fresh air in the ready meal delivery market as most of these companies want you to sign up to a subscription right from the beginning.

But Veestro has won many fans with their more laid back a la carte option.

Within the meal plans you can choose from high protein, gluten, nut or soy free and kosher options.

There is also the spring favorites option. All can be filtered according to dietary preferences.

Plan Options

There are two plan options when it comes to how often you receive your Veestro delivery.

A La Carte

The a la carte plan allows you to choose your entrees. Depending on the size of your meal plan, 10, 20 or 30 meals, you may choose all the same dish or a mixture.

This way of ordering your vegan food makes sure you avoid anything you may not enjoy.

It is also a good introduction to the Veestro service as you are not committing to a regular subscription.

You can try out the food, service and prices and see if it is for you.

However this is the more expensive option, and you will pay more per meal by using the a la carte service.

Weight Loss Plan

If you are trying to lose weight then this weight loss plan from Veestro is going to help you shed some pounds but stay healthy. They offer a 5 and 7 day vegan weight loss plan.

The three daily meals add up to a total of 1200 calories per day. So not only will you lose weight, but you won’t have to cook or do the dishes either.

With this plan you can customize, pause or cancel at any time. Another plus for Veestro as you won’t feel like you are committed long term.

How Is It Packaged?

When you are concerned about eating healthily, and responsibly you often don’t consider the packaging that your food comes in. But with Veestro you don’t have to worry about this.

All the meals are shipped frozen. They are packaged in a large cardboard box with dry ice and a biodegradable liner which keeps the food frozen for hours even on a warm day.

The meals themselves are packed in trays that are compostable but obviously freezer and microwave safe.

This means you can take the meal straight from the freezer and heat it in the microwave.

As well as compostable trays the meals are wrapped in plastic that is BPA free and completely recyclable.

When you transfer your meals to the freezer you will find that the trays stack very well and don’t take up as much room as you may have thought.

Menu

Well now we get down to the important business of what’s on the menu at Veestro.

The a la carte and weight loss menus offer over fifty different meals which are mostly entrees, but there are also some breakfast dishes.

Let’s take a look at some of them.

Jackfruit Jambalaya

This appetizing dish is a mixture of jackfruit, red beans, tomatoes, peppers and rice.

It is gluten, nut and soy free and also kosher.

The majority of reviews were positive with most customers happy with the flavor and texture of the dish.

Chick’n Nugget

It would be difficult to tell these apart from regular chicken nuggets just by looking at them.

The barbecue sauce is a tasty touch. The nuggets are dairy free and of course all the ingredients are organic.

Reviewers were pleased with the taste of the nuggets and many were surprised at the meat-like texture.

Several reviews mentioned how filling the nuggets were.

Breakfast Burrito

Tofu, veggies, beans and potatoes wrapped in a warm tortilla is a perfect vegan breakfast.

Loaded with protein they are also dairy free and nut free.

Customers were happy with how filling the burrito was as well as with the taste and the addition of potatoes on the side.

In general people seem very satisfied with the quality, taste and texture of the food from Veestro.

We’re going to take a closer look at the nutritional value and overall quality of the meals.

Quality

When people think of frozen food they may make an assumption that it is not as good as fresh food.

But frozen food has developed over the years and there are now methods of freezing food that retain a lot of the goodness and nutritional value.

Flash freezing is used in the preparation of Veestro’s meals and this preserves their appearance and health benefits.

This process involves rapidly freezing individual elements of the meal rather than freezing the whole thing as one unit.

So when your Veestro meal is thawed out or cooked the vegetables will look as fresh as if they had never been frozen.

Most reviewers and customers were happy with the flavor and taste of the food as well as its appearance.

The quality of the meals is testament to the care that Veestro takes in their processes.

Nutrition

It’s not easy getting the right nutrition into a frozen meal and when that meal is vegan the challenge is doubled.

But Veestro has gone to great lengths to make sure that their meals have a good nutritional balance.

They manage to get carbohydrates, fats and proteins into most of their meals.

Protein in particular is tricky to get right with vegan food.

Veestro Reviews

Most of the meals in the Veestro plans have some protein in them however, so they have done a good job with balancing the nutrition.

Cooking Your Meals

How you cook your Veestro meals will depend on the individual dishes.

Some like the kale (Check out How To Massage Kale) salad don’t need to be cooked at all and only need to be thawed out in the refrigerator overnight.

For the meals that do require cooking there is often more than one way to do this.

As the trays can be transferred from the freezer to the microwave many of the meals can be cooked this way.

For example, their red curry with tofu can be reheated on the stove top, or the microwave, but the eggplant casserole should go in the oven for best results.

The chick’n nuggets would be better heated in the oven too to keep the breadcrumbs crispy.

The best advice is to follow the directions on the packaging as to the most appropriate method of reheating the food.

Pros & Cons Of Veestro

As with any subscription box service there are pros and cons to Veestro.

However, this can be subjective as what suits one person may not work for another.

We’ve taken some of the advantages and disadvantages of Veestro for you to consider.

Pros

  • A healthy, all plant based meal service with lots of dishes to choose from
  • They are the only 100% plant based frozen meal delivery service in the market
  • Set delivery days so you can plan your weekly menu
  • Clear nutritional information on the packaging
  • Choice of a la carte or subscription options
  • Hand picked ingredients by a qualified vegan chef
  • All the ingredients are organic, non GMO and preservative free
  • They have gluten free, soy free, nut free options
  • Meals can be stored in the freezer for up to eight weeks
  • There is little preparation and minimal clean up afterwards

Cons

  • An expensive service but the quality and convenience is there
  • Not all the meals can be microwaved
  • One off deliveries are expensive with no free shipping
  • Limited breakfast options

Just by comparing the two lists it is clear that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of using Veestro.

That is if your budget allows it. They are on the pricier side of frozen delivery meals, but that said the quality of the food is superb, and it is 100% vegan.

Competition

So do Veestro have any direct competition in this niche?

There are a lot of meal delivery services in the market but none offer completely plant based meal plans.

Companies like Hello Fresh, Blue Apron and Home Chef offer vegan dishes but meat based products too.

Daily Harvest do offer a frozen vegetable based meal service, but they don’t claim to be vegan.

Their website is a lot more slick with some excellent photos of the food.

But if you’re vegan then that’s not going to persuade you, you’ll want to know you’re getting 100% plant based food.

The overwhelming view of Veestro among its customers seems to be very positive.

This is especially true for the flavor and texture of the food. But reviewers consistently commented on how filling the meals were too.

So you may think that perhaps Veestro is a little expensive but when you are getting tasty, filling meals that leave you satisfied that’s what you are paying for. There is also the quality and convenience of the service.

Final Thoughts

Vegans can sometimes find it very difficult to consistently find recipes that are easy, quick and tasty.

To find a company that takes care of all their meal requirements is a huge bonus.

There has obviously been a lot of thought and care put into the quality, presentation and delivery methods of the Veestro meal plans and this shows.

Most reviewers were complimentary about all aspects of the service with maybe just a few saying that the pricing is a bit high. Perhaps if they face some direct competition this would change.

But for now Veestro is the frozen, vegan meal delivery service of choice.
